The Schmitz Service Award

The Schmitz Service Award is given every year to volunteers who represent exemplary dedication to the mission of Food For Hope.

This award was created to honor our organization’s first volunteer coordinator, Dick “Papa” Schmitz. He was invaluable in the early days of Food For Hope - helping count canned goods at a discount grocery store, making our first deliveries, and always being there for everything that was needed. He had a great passion for helping children living in difficult circumstances.

Unfortunately, Papa Schmitz passed away from cancer in 2017.  He was the first recipient of this award. Now, we present it every year to honor his memory and to recognize volunteers who are vital to the success of Food for Hope.
